Two Minutemen Garner Summit League Postseason Accolades

Matt Cence was named to the First Team All-League, while JP Mbuthia was selected as an All-League Honorable Mention and All-Newcomer Team member.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer senior midfielder Matt Cence and graduate student forward JP Mbuthia earned postseason honors, as announced by the Sumit League on Saturday morning.
Cence was selected to the First Team All-League, while Mbuthia was an All-League Honorable Mention and a member of the All-Newcomer Team.
Cence, a Farmington, Connecticut, native, started in 15 of 17 games played this season, accumulating 1,420 minutes on the pitch. The senior tallied 16 points on five goals and six assists, while scoring the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win over Denver. He produced 46 shots, placing 20 on frame.
In the conference, Cence ranks third in assists with six, seventh in points with 16 and 10th in goals with five. He ranks fourth in both shots (46) and shots on goal (20).
Mbuthia, a Mooresville, North Carolina, native, recorded 799 minutes over 12 contests, while getting the start in 10. He produced a team-leading 18 points, with a team-best eight goals and two assists. He also had a team-high two game-winning goals on the year. The graduate student took 21 shots, as 11 were on goal.
Mbuthia's eight goals place him fourth in the Summit League, while ranking fourth in points with 18. In the conference, he also ranks sixth in game-winning goals with two.
