Women's Soccer Hosts UMass Lowell On Senior Day

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer returns to Rudd Field for a Sunday afternoon contest with UMass Lowell at 2 p.m., on ESPN+. Prior to the start of the match, nine seniors in Sarah DeFreitas, Rose Gevanthor, Macy Graves, Ashley Lamond, Kelly Pease, Chandler Pedolzky, Emma Pedolzky, Bella Recinos and Juliana Ryan, will be recognized.   
 
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen improved to 4-2-1 on the year after shutting out Bryant on the road, 4-0 last Sunday. The win pushed the Minutewomen's undefeated streak to five, while picking up their third straight victory. It also marked the fourth clean sheet in the program's last five games.
 
Four Minutewomen earned two points each on the day, as senior forward Ashley Lamond, senior midfielder Bella Recinos and graduate student forward Grace Pinkus notched one goal each, while senior forward Chandler Pedolzky totaled two assists.
 
UMass got on the board early in the first with a goal from Lamond in the eighth minute. Emma Pedolzky corralled a pass in the 18-yard box, before passing it forward to the right corner of the six-yard box. Lamond one-touched the ball with her left foot to bury it into bottom right of the net.  

Recinos made it a 2-0 contest in the Minutewomen's favor, as a pass from Emma Pedolzky  found its way to Recinos in the box. Recinos dribbled it a little bit before booting the ball into the top right of the goal.

During the second half, UMass continued to dominate offensively, recording its third goal of the match at the 49:17 mark. Senior forward Chandler Pedolzky headed a pass up from Lamond towards the six-yard box, which was gathered by Pinkus, as she sent it towards the back of the top left of the net for her first goal of the year.
 
Mendoza recorded her fourth shutout of the year, while collecting the 15th of her career, which tied her for eighth in the record book. Mendoza stopped three shots in 90 minutes of play without allowing a goal on the afternoon.
 
In The Rankings
Massachusetts as a program currently sits eighth in the United Soccer Coaches East Region Rankings for the second straight week. The team is behind Xavier, Saint Louis, Georgetown, Harvard, Princeton, Butler and UConn, while ranking ahead of Creighton and Monmouth.
 
Mendoza is tied for eighth in the NCAA rankings with four shutouts on the season, and is one of only two goalkeepers in the Atlantic 10 to sit within the top-30.
 
Record Book Tracking
Mendoza placed her name on the program's career saves list, ranking eighth after collecting her 225th save against Bryant last Sunday.
 
Mendoza earned back-to-back shutouts against Northeastern (4-0) and at Bryant (3-0), etching her name in the career records for the program. The San Ramon, California, native, tied Jeanne Paul (1983-84) for eighth with 15 career shutouts.
 
Additionally, graduate student midfielder Ella Curry is two games away from putting her name on the career games played list to tie for 10th with 79 games played. She is also five games away from tying for eighth with 75 games started.
 
Defending Fort Rudd
Massachusetts defended its home turf with 4-0 win over Northeastern on Thursday, September 5, pushing its regular season home slate to an 8-0-2 record, continuing a record that spans from August 31, 2023. The program's current home record matches the 1993 season undefeated home record. Last year, the team finished the regular season with a home record of 6-0-1.
 
The Minutewomen's undefeated home record last season marked the first time for the program since the 1993 season, when the team went 8-0-2. It also marked the first time in program history UMass went undefeated at Rudd Field since its opening in 2002.
 
Statistically Speaking
UMass is sixth in points in the Atlantic 10 with 34, while also tied for sixth in goals (12) and is seventh in assists (10). Massachusetts is tied for third in shutouts with four on the season, along with Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis and Dayton.
 
Recinos leads the team in points (nine) and goals (four), while adding an assist on the season. She is currently 10th in the A-10 with four goals, so far, this season. Recinos also leads the team in game-winning goals with four and is tied for first in the conference.
 
Chandler Pedolzky leads the team in assists with three on the year, and follows close behind with seven total points, notching two goals. In the A-10, Chandler Pedolzky is tied for fourth in assists.

Mendoza tallied 630 minutes in net for the Minutewomen, averaging a .860 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .760 save percentage. She has also accumulated four shutouts on the year.

Mendoza has placed herself in the conference rankings, sitting tied for fifth  in goals-against-average with a .860. She also ranks seventh in total saves with 19, while tying for first in shutouts with Batoul Reda of Dayton with four, averaging .571 shutouts per game.
 
Scouting UMass Lowell
The Minutewome and River Hawks are tied in the all-time series with a 1-1-3 record. UMass and UMass Lowell first met on August 29, 2019, ending the contest with a 2-2 draw in double overtime. The Minutewomen and River Hawks met last season on the road, resulting in a 2-2 tie.
 
UMass Lowell stands at 1-4-2 on the year, defeating Boston University, 1-0, in its lone win. The River Hawks also tied Rhode Island and Central Connecticut State with a score of 1-1 in both contests, while falling to Merrimack (1-0), Holy Cross (1-0), LSU (3-0) and Stony Brook (4-0). Gaby Eckroth leads UMass Lowell with four points with a team-best two goals. Laura Cetina follows with one goal for two points, while three River Hawks have one point on one assist each. Cetina sits atop the leaderboard with 11 shots, including six on target, with Eckroth and Calliste Brookshire closely behind with nine and eight shots, respectively, with six on goal, as well.
 
Taylor Burgess and Rachel Welch have split time in the net for UMass Lowell, with Burgess accumulating the most minutes. Burgess totaled 495 minutes in goal with a 1-3-2 record. She has a 1.82 GAA and a .792 save percentage with one shutout on the season. Welch has a 0-1-0 record, tallying 135 minutes in goal, while holding a .670 GAA and a .900 save percentage.
 
Looking Ahead
Massachusetts begins A-10 Conference play on Thursday, September 19, at Rudd Field against Saint Louis. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
