Women’s Soccer Remains Undefeated For Sixth Straight Match With 1-0 Senior Day Win Over UMass Lowell

Minutewomen collect fourth consecutive victory and fifth clean sheet in the previous six games.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer earned a 1-0 victory against UMass Lowell on Senior Day to remain undefeated for its sixth straight match on Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field. It marked the fourth consecutive triumph for UMass and fifth clean sheet for in its last six games.
Massachusetts improved to 5-2-1 on the season, while UMass Lowell dropped to 1-5-2 overall on the year. Additionally, the Minutewomen continued to defend their home turf, moving their regular season home slate record to 9-0-2 that spans from August 31, 2023.
In a scoreless first half, UMass outshot the River Hawks, 10-8, while taking five corners to UMass Lowell's one.
The second half saw the Minutewomen get on the board at the 50:44 mark, scoring the lone goal to make it a 1-0 game. Massachusetts took a corner in the 51st minute, that was headed down by graduate student defender Hannah Peric in the six-yard box. Graduate student forward Karina Groff chipped the ball towards the net, sending it past the River Hawks goalkeeper for her first goal of the season. Peric's assist also was her first of the year.
UMass continued to control the pace throughout the second half and defensively held UMass Lowell to three shots. The Minutewomen tallied 18 shots in the final 45 minutes with several scoring opportunities.
Massachusetts outshot UMass Lowell, 28-11, in total, while putting 11 shots on target with the River Hawks only placing three on goal. UMass had 13 corners in the contest, while UMass Lowell had only one in the match.
Senior forward Ashley Lamond led the team in shots with five, followed by Groff, sophomore forward Caroline Dickson and senior forward Chandler Pedolzky with four apiece. Pedolzky placed three of her shots on goal.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza recorded her fifth shutout of the year, while collecting the 16th of her career, to solely take over eighth place in the record book. Mendoza stopped three shots in 90 minutes of play without allowing a goal on the afternoon.
Massachusetts begins Atlantic 10 Conference play on Thursday, September 19, at Rudd Field against Saint Louis. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
