Minutemen Host UMass Lowell and Brown in Two-Game Home Stand

AMHERST, Mass. – Massachusetts (1-1-2) is slated to host two games at Rudd Field this week, first taking on UMass Lowell (4-0-2) on Wednesday afternoon followed by a Saturday matchup against Brown (1-1-0). Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with live coverage of both matches streaming live on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The Minutemen are coming off a 4-3 win against Yale (0-3-0) in Saturday evening's thriller. Alec Hughes scored a brace, becoming the third All-Time goal scorer in program history. Hughes' assist opened up the scoring, linking up with Mike Willis to play Shane Velez.
Early Season Standout
Hughes was named A-10 Offensive Player of the Week on Sep. 9, tallying seven points (three goals, one assist) across two games. Hughes returns for his fifth season in the maroon and white, coming into the 2024 campaign ranked at No. 6 in Top Drawer Soccer's Men's DI Preseason Top-100. Hughes was also named to TDS's Preseason First-Team Best XI and the Atlantic 10's Preseason All-Conference.
Chasing History
Hughes currently ranks third among All-Time Minutemen goal scorers with 38 on his career. He trails only Randal Jacobs ('94) and Jeff Deren ('03) in the record books by two goals and 10 goals respectively.

UMass meets with UMass Lowell after a 2023 matchup that saw the Minutemen take a 1:1 away draw against the River Hawks. The last game held at Rudd Field ended in a 3:3 comeback by the Minutemen. The last 6 matchups in the Kennedy Cup culminated in a 2-2-2 record.
