Women’s Soccer Picks Up Second Straight Shutout With 0-0 Draw Against Harvard

The Minutewomen remain undefeated at home in the regular season.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer earned its second straight shutout after playing Harvard University to a 0-0 draw on Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field. With the tie, the Minutewomen push their regular season home slate to 7-0-2, continuing a record from August 31, 2023.
Massachusetts improved to 1-2-1 overall on the year, while Harvard moved to 1-0-1 on the season.
Neither team generated much offense in the opening 45 minutes of the match, as UMass registered two shots and Harvard had four. Graduate student forward Grace Pinkus took the first shot of the contest at the 6:03 mark, placing it to the bottom right of the net, but the Crimson's goalkeeper Rhiannon Stewart came away with the save.
Harvard outshot Massachusetts in the second half, 13-5, taking a shot quickly that was saved by redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza. The Minutwomen defense continued strong throughout the final 45 minutes to keep Crimson's shots from finding the back of the net. Neither team was able to breakthrough, resulting in a scoreless draw.
Overall, UMass was outshot by Harvard, 17-7, but placed more shots on goal with three, as the Crimson had two on net. Harvard took 10 corners, all in the second half, while the Massachusetts registered one, which came in the first half.
Senior midfielder Bella Recinos posted a team-high four shots, with one on goal, followed by Pinkus, freshman forward Amelia Bloom and sophomore forward Caroline Dickson with one apiece. Pinkus and Dickson also had one shot on net on the afternoon.
Mendoza notched her second consecutive shutout of the season, and 13th of her career, competing in net for 90 minutes for the Minutewomen and stopping two shots. Stewart of Harvard, saved three shots on the day, playing the full 90 minutes in goal for the Crimson.
Massachusetts travels to Boston College for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, September 1, in Newton, Massachusetts.
