Minutewomen Power Their Way Through Fordham In A-10 Championship Opener

BRONX, N.Y. -- Massachusetts (19-33, 14-12 A-10) claimed an 8-4 victory, defeating Fordham (25-28-1, 15-11) in game one of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Bahoshy Field. 

The Minutewomen flashed their power early and often, utilizing four home runs from three different players to secure their first A-10 Tournament victory since 2019. Massachusetts struck first as a two-run home run off the bat of Sarah Keagy made it 2-0 Minutewomen. Keagy made it back-to-back at-bats with a home run, this time with a three-run blast to make it 5-1 in the top of the fourth. The Minutewomen used another two big flies, this time from Jordyn Graime and Chloe Whittier to take a convincing 8-3 advantage in the top of the fifth inning. The Rams got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, but were unable to make the necessary rally, allowing UMass to secure the tournament opener in the Bronx.

Overall Sarah Keagy went 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs, five RBI and a walk. The performance marks her second two home run game of the season, both coming against Fordham.

Sophomore Julianne Bolton made her 25th start of the season, striking out four while allowing just two earned runs across a complete game 7.0 innings of work. The outing signifies her 14th complete game of the 2024 campaign and first ever postseason win.

  • 1: Graime blasted her first career home run with a solo shot in the top of the fifth
  • 2: Keagy recorded her second two home run performance of the season, the first coming on March 22 vs. Fordham. 
  • 4: The Minutewomen launched a season-high four home runs from three different players.
  • 5: Whittier hit her fifth home run of the season, setting a new career-high,
  • 8: The Minutewomen recorded eight hits on the day, recording their 10th game with five-plus hits in the last 12 games.
  • 12: Keagy launched her team-leading 12th home run of the season.
  • 30: Bolton made her 30th appearance of the 2024 season, earning her eighth win.
  • 121: With four strikeouts on the day Bolton increases her season total to 121.
