Baseball Drops Midweek Matchup To UConn, 13-3

STORRS, CT. – University of Massachusetts baseball fell to UConn, 13-3, in a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.  
 
UMass moved to 14-22 overall, including 5-7 in Atlantic 10 play, while UConn improved to 21-18 on the 2024 campaign.
 
Carter Hanson highlighted the day offensively for the Minutemen, blasting a two-run home run to give the Minutemen their first runs of the game. The two-run shot was Hanson's sixth home run of the season, while marking his team-high tying 27th RBI.
 
The Huskies snagged the games opening run off an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. The Minutemen responded quickly, as Hanson's two-run blast gave the advantage back to Massachusetts, 2-1, in the top of the third.
 
Sophomore Dylan Terwilliger pitched a clean inning, maintaining the Massachusetts advantage heading into the top of the fourth inning. UConn however would respond with a dominant four hit and seven-run fourth to claim an 8-2 lead they would not surrender.

The Huskies extended their lead with with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth inning, making it a 13-2 advantage. Junior Zack Zaetta recorded his second hit and RBI of the season with a single to make it 13-3 in the top of the seventh inning. The Minutemen would load the bases in the seventh, but could not push another run across to extend the evening.
 
Terwilliger (0-1) was the pitcher of record for UMass, taking his first loss of the season after giving up four hits across 2.1 innings on the bump. Gabe Van Emon (2-4) gets the win after allowing just three hits while striking out nine batters over 6.0 innings pitched for the Huskies.
 
Massachusetts continues their midweek road stint, heading to Loudonville, New York, to take on Siena on Wednesday, April 24, at 3 p.m. on Siena All-Access.
