Trio Earns UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week Honors

Burgess, Morris and Streicher to be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday.
AMHERST, Mass. – Austin Burgess of baseball, Kassidy Morris of women's lacrosse and Hannah Streicher of softball have earned the UMassFive Student-Athletes of the Week honor, as announced on Tuesday. The trio will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday at the Berkshire Dining Commons.
On a 2-3 week for UMass, Burgess had a .333 batting percentage, a .375 on base percentage and a .762 slugging percentage. He strung together seven hits, including three home runs, totaled six runs and added nine RBI in 21 last bats on the week, while getting walked twice and stealing one base. During Saturday's doubleheader against Fordham, the Hughesville, Maryland, native tallied a season-high matching three hits, clubbing a season-best two home runs, and a career-high five RBI. He added two runs in the game. In game two of the doubleheader, he registered three more hits, totaling six all together between the two contests, including a home run, marking three across the day. Burgess contributed two runs and two RBI in the 7-5 game two win. In the outfield, he recorded eight putouts with no errors.
Morris scored 10 goals, including a career-high seven against VCU on Saturday, and added a pair of assists for 12 points to help women's lacrosse extend their winning streak to eight games. Morris picked up her 11th and 12th hat tricks of the season, opening the week with three goals and two assists as the Minutewomen scored 15 unanswered goals in an 18-9 win at UMass Lowell on Tuesday. The attacker reached a new career-high with seven goals in a 16-8 win over VCU and moved to a team-leading 47 goals on the season. Morris scored four goals in the third quarter against the Rams as UMass scored six unanswered after a tied game at half.
Streicher had a breakout game, earning her first career win in a 2-1 victory over George Mason on Sunday, April 14. The Sparta, New Jersey native pitched a 7.0 inning complete game, striking out five batters without allowing an earned run. Streicher was key to the series capping victory for the Minutewomen, holding George Mason without an extra-base hit over 111 pitches on the day.
