Catherwood And Nestrašil Earn Athlete Of The Week Recognition

AMHERST, Mass. – Men's cross country junior Collin Catherwood and hockey freshman forward Václav Nestrašil have been selected as the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. The duo will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday in the Berkshire Room of the Berkshire Dining Commons.
Guest speakers at this week's luncheon will be men's lacrosse head coach Kyle Smith and women's lacrosse head coach Jana Drummond.
Catherwood finished fifth at the Minutemen's inaugural MAC Cross Country Championships in a field of 86 runners to lead UMass, posting a time of 24:19.5 in the 8K.
Nestrašil scored the game winner on the power play with less than two minutes to play in regulation in hockey 2-1 win over No. 20 Cornell last Friday. The Prague, Czechia, native also had an assist in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Big Red, bringing his points total to 11 in nine games to start his career. His seven goals in nine games ties for most by a UMass freshman to begin a career since 2002-03.
