Massachusetts Women's Track & Field Wrap Up Homestand With UMass Commonwealth Invitational

AMHERST, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team finished out their homestand with the UMass Commonwealth Invitational on Saturday. The Minutewomen ended the meet with their Senior Day celebration as they honored 15 athletes.
ÂHighlights from competition:
- Freshman Ali Murphy placed second in the 100m with a time of 12.61 while Victoria Hernandez came in seventh.
- Maria Wood claimed fourth in the 200m with a time of 26.97.
- The Minutewomen owned the top two spots in the 400m thanks to a 57.86 finish from Sadai Headley-Mawasi and a 59.01 time from Elise O'Leary.
- Three Minutewomen finished in the top eight of the 800m. Sarah Witt won the event while Simone Harrison took third and Hannah Rose Beckman placed fifth.
- Charlotte Henning finished the 1500m in a time of 4:45.21 to claim second.
- Elizabeth Lee came in seventh during the 100m hurdles.
- Emilie Bell cleared 10' 4" in the pole vault to finish in third.
- Tiarra Deveaux, Grace Hanafin, and Jordan Lafave took the top three spots in the long. Deveaux won the event with a jump of 18' 6".
- In the triple jump, four more Minutewomen had top eight marks as Winnie Sekyaya's jump of 36' 7.75" was good for second. Along with Sekyaya, Gabrielle Bilong finished fourth, Ruth Michel was behind her in fifth, and Bridget Lee in eighth.
- Tess Rancourt won the shot put with a throw of 42' 9.25". Natalie Krysta and Madelyn Bishop came in third and fourth respectively in the event.
- Krysta, Gabriella Pagnini and Madelyn Bishop all finished in the top eight in the discus. Krysta's throw of 142' 8" earned her second.
- Jaliyah Burns' hammer throw of 153' 5" gave her second place.
- Anna Cozzolino came in second in the javelin with a throw of 131' 9" while teammate Aaliyah Alleyne finished behind her in third. Freshman Evalysse Pierce came in fifth in the event as well.
Next weekend the Minutewomen will split between a pair of meets as select athletes will head to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday, April 19th and the Holy Cross Invite on Saturday, April 20th.
