Bell Prepares For NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

Andrew Bell will compete in the one- and three-meter dives, beginning on Thursday, March 28.
AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore Andrew Bell of the University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team will compete at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday, March 28, through Friday, March 29, in Indianapolis, Indiana, hosted by IUPUI, at the IU Natatorium. Bell is only the second Minuteman diver in school history to represent Massachusetts at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, as Jason Cook (Class of 2012) became the first diver to attend the event in 2009.
Bell qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships after placing in the top-five in the men's three-meter dive and in the top-12 in the men's one-meter dive at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in Princeton, New Jersey. The South Windsor, Connecticut, native, took ninth in the Prelims/Quarterfinals of the event with a score of 343.15, Bell took fifth in the Finals of the three-meter dive, before finishing with a combined 12-dive total of 730.80 to solidify his spot at the NCAA Championships. In the one-meter dive, Bell landed within the top-10, taking eighth, in the one-meter Prelims/Quarterfinals with a score of 328.55 to move on to the Finals. He combined for a total of 664.80, marking a new school record of 12-dives, in the Finals of the event to place eighth and head to the NCAA Championships.
Earlier in the year, Bell set a new school record, as well as a new Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool record in the one-meter with a score of 409.05 on January 6. Bell also broke the three-meter record three times this season, before setting on a personal-best 461.40 on February 10.
