McGowan And Nass Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Honors

Fiona McGowan was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week while Layton Nass earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Week honors.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse athletes Fiona McGowan and Layton Nass earned Atlantic 10 weekly award honors as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. McGowan was named the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week while Nass earned the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week honor.
McGowan (Westwood, Mass.) finished with a team-high 16 points with the help of 11 assists as the Minutewomen went 2-0 in a pair of conference games last week. McGowan opened the week by racking up seven assists to go along with two goals in a 20-9 win at La Salle on Wednesday to pass 100 goals for her career. The attacker added seven more points in Saturday's 21-5 win over, finishing with a hat trick and four assists. McGowan is just three assists away from reaching 100 in her career and currently ranks seventh all-time in the category.
Nass posted a team-high six caused turnovers to help UMass to a 2-0 record last week. Nass opened the week with five caused turnovers in Wednesday's 20-9 win at La Salle and added three ground balls while scoring a goal. The defender caused a turnover and secured three ground balls on Saturday against St. Bonaventure, helping hold the Bonnies to five goals in the 21-5 win.
The Minutewomen are back in action at Garber Field on Saturday at noon for a matchup against Davidson before hitting the road for two consecutive games away from home.
