Bucknell Takes Game Two, 7-4, From Massachusetts Baseball

Minutemen and Bison face off for two on Sunday, February 25, at 11 a.m.
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA. – University of Massachusetts baseball fell, 7-4, to Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Shepherd Stadium. Game two of the day was rained out, and has been moved to a doubleheader on Sunday, February 25.
Nolan Tichy and Matt Travisano recorded a teampbest two hits each, while both added one RBI and Tichy doubled on the day. Kevin Skagerlind, Carter Hanson and Michael Toth all had one hit, while Skagerlind led the team in runs with two. Justin Blumenthal and Braden Sullivan followed behind with one run apiece. Hanson also registered a double on the afternoon.
UMass led 2-0 after the first inning, but Bucknell scored four in the top of the second to take the lead. In the bottom of the second, Massachusetts came across the plate twice to bring the game to a 4-4 tie. The Bison added a run in the third to reclaim the lead, before extending its lead with a run in the sixth and in the seventh to win 7-4.
The Bison scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead at 6-5, before the Minutemen knotted the game up at six apiece in the seventh. The bottom of the seventh saw Bucknell come across the plate three more times, leading 9-6. UMass pushed across one more run in the top of the eighth, but the Bison were able to hold on to win 9-7.
Sam Belliveau (0-1) took the loss for the Minutemen, pitching three complete innings. He allowed five runs on four hits, two walks and had one strikeout. Mikey Jensen took over on the mound for four innings, giving up four hits, two runs, walking two and striking out three. Hadley Maxwell (1-1) received the win for the Bison allowing four runs on four hits, walking five and striking out five in four innings pitched. Graeme Carroll earned the save, dealing two strikeouts in one inning.
