Women’s Soccer Earns Second Straight Shutout Win

Minutewomen record season-best 23 shots on the day.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer recorded its second-straight shutout to defeat Bryant University, 2-0, at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Minutewomen improve to 3-1-2 overall on the year, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-2-1 on the season.
Massachusetts started strong with a few shot opportunities, before junior defender Juliana Ryan put the Minutewomen on the board first for her first goal of the season in the 19th minute. Junior forward Ashley Lamond corralled a pass across field from senior forward Grace Pinkus and sent the ball just outside the six-yard box, as Ryan stepped up and headed the ball into the lower corner of the net.
In the second half, UMass continued to command the possession and threatening to score on multiple occasions. Late in the game, junior midfielder Emma Pedolzky kicked the ball in the center of the 18-yard box, as junior midfielder Bella Recinos one-touched it, sailing the ball into the top right corner of the net in the 83rd minute for her second goal of the year.
UMass had a season-high 23 shots on the day, including eight on goal, while Bryant tallied three shots and only one on target. Recinos and senior midfielder Ella Curry matched their career-best in shots with a team-leading four on the afternoon, followed by Lamond, Ryan and freshman forward Caroline Dickson with three each. Ryan and Dickson posted a career-high with their three shots apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza garnered her second consecutive shutout of the year, and fifth of her career, stopping only one shot on goal.
The Minutewomen hit the road for two next week, visiting UAlbany on Thursday, September 7 for a 7 p.m. match on ESPN+, before traveling to Rutgers on Sunday, September 10 for a 1 p.m. contest on B1G+.
