AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer readies for two road tests this week, visiting UAlbany on Thursday, September 7, and Rutgers on Sunday, September 10. The Minutewomen take on the Great Danes at 7 p.m. on ESPN+, before facing the Scarlet Knights at 1 p.m. on B1G+.  
 
Last Time Out
UMass holds a 3-1-2 overall record after earning back-to-back shutout victories last week. The Minutewomen defeated Syracuse (2-0) and Bryant (2-0) at Rudd Field last Thursday and Sunday, respectively.
 
Two first half goals from junior defender Sarah DeFreitas and junior forward Ashley Lamond helped Massachusetts to its 2-0 victory over Syracuse. After increased pressure from Syracuse in the second half, the UMass defense held strong and shutdown the Orange throughout the remainder of the contest.
 
Against Bryant, junior defender Juliana Ryan put the Massachusetts on the board first in the 19th minute, before a late second half goal from junior midfielder Bella Recinos sealed the deal for the 2-0 triumph against Bryant.
 
Keeping Track
Graduate student defender Fiona Kane placed her name on the program's career games started list, tying for sixth with Jess Howe (2009-12) after starting in her 77th contest against Bryant on Sunday. She will hold sixth in the record book solely with her next start at 78 games started.
 
Kane is also two games away from tying for ninth in career games played with 79. With the feat, she will tie with Danielle Dion (1994-97), Lauren Skesavage (2010-13) and Amy Trunk (1990-93).  
 
Mendoza is 14 saves away from etching her name in the career records for the program. With 14 more saves, she would tie Danielle Kriscenski (2012-15) for 10th with 163 career saves.
 
Statistically Speaking
Lamond is currently tied for third in goals (three) and in points (eight) in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while sitting third in shots on goal with three. She also ranks fourth in the league in shots with 18 total.
 
Junior defender Juliana Ryan sits tied for third in the A-10 with one game-winning goal.
 
Senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza has placed herself in the conference rankings, sitting fifth in goals against average with a .991, while ranking seventh in total saves with 20. She is also tied for third in shutouts per game with a .333 average, and is tied for second with two total shutouts.
 
Scouting UAlbany
The Minutewomen hold a 6-2-0 advantage over the Great Danes in the all-time series. The two programs first me on September 1, 1999, when UMass came out on top with a dominant 6-0 shutout road victory. Massachusetts and UAlbany met last season in the season opener on August 18. The Minutewomen won 1-0 on the afternoon over the Great Danes.
 
UAlbany currently sits at 2-3 overall on the season, picking up wins over Hofstra (2-1) and Rider (3-0). The Great Danes fell to La Salle (1-0), Brown (6-0) and Boston University (3-2) on the year. Seven players for UAlbany have notched a goal this season, collecting two points each. Tiffany Bernot has the team's only assist of the year, tallying one point of her own. Olivia Piraino leads the team in shots with 16, including nine on target. Megan Hart has spent the most time in net for the Great Danes, totaling 360 minutes over four starts. Hart has a 2.75 GAA and a .676 save percentage, while stopping 23 shots of 76 faced, allowing 11 goals.
 
Scouting Rutgers
The Minutewomen lead the all-time series with the Scarlet Knights, 10-2-1. First meeting in Amherst on October 5, 1985, Massachusetts defeated Rutgers 3-1 on the day. The two teams last met on August 30, 2015 on the road, where the then ranked No. 24 Scarlet Knights defeated the Minutewomen 1-0. UMass last won against Rutgers in a 1-0 overtime thriller on September 7, 1994.
 
Rutgers holds a 2-2-2 overall record on the year, winning its season opener against Holy Cross, 2-0, and against Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0. The Scarlet Knights tied 1-1 with NC State, before ending in a scoreless draw at Princeton, while falling to Hofstra (1-0) and then ranked No. 14 Georgetown (2-0). Allison Lowrey registered a team-leading five goals for a team-best 10 points, followed by Riley Tiernan with six points on two goals and two assists. Gia Vicari, Sam Kroeger and Allie Post also tallied two assists, so far this season, while Vicari added one goal for a total of four points. Lowrey and Vicari have a team-high 14 shots, as Lowrey leads the team with nine shots on target. Olivia Bodmer has started in goal in all six games for Rutgers, recording about 510 minutes. Bodmer has a 0.71 GAA, allowing only four goals this season, and a .826 save percentage, making 19 total saves on 56 shots faced, and has two shutouts with one combined shutout.
 
The Scarlet Knights will take on Providence on Thursday prior to Sunday's contest against the Minutewomen.   
 
Looking Ahead
UMass returns to Rudd Field to begin Atlantic 10 Conference play, hosting George Washington on Thursday, September 14, at 4 p.m.,before traveling to Dayton Sunday, September 17, for a 1 p.m. match. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
