Minutewomen pick up third straight shutout victory on their home turf of the season.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer remain undefeated at Rudd Field after defeating George Washington University, 2-0, on Thursday evening to start Atlantic 10 Conference play.
It is the first time since 2018 the Minutewomen have won three consecutive home contests, while marking the first time since the 2015 season they recorded three straight shutout triumphs on their home turf.
The Minutewomen improve to 4-2-2 overall on the year and 1-0-0 in league competition, while the Revolutionaries fall to 3-3-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the A-10.
Massachusetts got off to a fast start, scoring two early goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead. Junior midfielder Bella Recinos corralled a pass from senior forward Grace Pinkus and dribbled the ball in the six-yard box. Recinos took a shot sending it past George Washington's goalkeeper and into the top corner of the net in the fourth minute to put UMass on the board first.
In the seventh minute, Recinos kicked a pass out in into the center of the six-yard box as junior forward Ashley Lamond one-touched the ball into the back of the goal. The Minutewomen defense kept strong throughout the remainder of the game to keep it a 2-0 game and come out on top.
UMass outshot George Washington, 12-7, with four on target to the Revolutionaries two. Massachusetts held the advantage in corner kicks with five as George Washington registered two.
Senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza stopped the two shots on goal and did not allow a goal through 90 minutes of play, garnering her third solo shutout of the season, and sixth of her career.
