Women’s Soccer Shut Out By Dayton, 1-0

Minutewomen take on VCU next on Thursday at Rudd Field.
DAYTON, Ohio – University of Massachusetts women's soccer fell to Dayton in a 1-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon at Baujan Field in the opening week of Atlantic 10 Conference competition.
The Minutewomen move to 4-3-2 overall on the year and 1-1-0 in league competition, while the Flyers improve to 6-1-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the A-10.
The Flyers struck first in the 14th minute, as a left-footed goal from Noel Blain trickled into the bottom right of the net to make it a 1-0 contest early. Massachusetts and Dayton tallied five shots apiece, with Dayton having four shots on goal , while UMass put two on target in the opening 45 minutes. Both teams had a couple of scoring opportunities in the second half, but the lone goal of the day stood with the Flyers.
UMass edged Dayton in shots, 10-9, but the Flyers recorded five on goal to the Minutewomen's two. Dayton held the advantage in corners, 6-2, over Massachusetts.
Senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza registered four saves, allowing only one goal, through 90 minutes in net. Dayton's goalkeeper Batoul Reda stopped two shots and did not allow a goal.
Massachusetts hosts VCU at Rudd Field on Thursday, September 21, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
