Women’s Soccer Ties UMass Lowell, 2-2

Minutewomen outshot the River Hawks 22-10.

LOWELL, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer posted a 2-2 draw with UMass Lowell at Cushing Field on Thursday evening.

 The Minutewomen move to 1-0-2 overall on the season, as the River Hawks sit at 0-1-2 on the year.

 UMass got on the board early after junior midfielder Bella Recinos netted the first goal of the contest in the eighth minute, assisted by sophomore forward Nia Hislop, to give Massachusetts the 1-0 advantage. In the 34th minute, UMass Lowell's Julia Edholm knotted up the game at one apiece with an unassisted goal. Although the Minutewomen had a few scoring opportunities, they were unable to get one past the River Hawks goalkeeper, ending the first half in a 1-1 draw.

 Massachusetts notched another a goal early in the second half, as senior forward Grace Pinkus headed the ball into the back of the net off senior midfielder Ella Curry's free kick opportunity in the 48th minute. UMass held the 2-1 lead throughout most of the second half, but in the 82nd minute, Luka Marceau of UMass Lowell score to tie the contest up once more at 2-2. Two corner kicks and a shot on target by junior forward Chandler Pedolzky allowed the Minutewomen scoring chances, but the final 45 minutes of play concluded, resulting in the 2-2 draw.

 Massachusetts outshot UMass Lowell, 22-10, seeing 13 shots on goal to the River Hawks five. The Minutewomen also tallied seven corner kicks on the night, while UMass Lowell had three.  

 Senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza played the full 90 minutes in net, stopping three shots and allowing two goals.  

 The Minutewomen head to Yale on Sunday, August 27, for a 6 p.m., match on ESPN+, before hosting Syracuse for their home opener on Thursday, August 31, at 4 p.m., at Rudd Field on ESPN+.
