Women’s Soccer Falls To Yale, 2-1

Ashley Lamond notched the lone goal for UMass.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer dropped a close 2-1 match to Yale University on Sunday evening at Reese Stadium. Junior forward Ashley Lamond scored the lone goal for the Minutewomen in the 29th minute.
The Minutewomen move to 1-1-2 overall on the season, as the Bulldogs improve to 1-0-1 on the year.
UMass broke through first with a goal from Lamond in the 29th minute to give the Minutewomen the 1-0 advantage. Lamond corralled a cross field pass from junior forward Chandler Pedolzky and dribbled the ball into the 18-yard box, before booting the ball high and in the center of the net.
In the second half, Yale knotted the game up, in the 54th minute, as the Bulldogs' Logan Jacobs found the back of the net, before taking a 2-1 lead on an Anita Thorvaldsdottir goal in the 58th minute.
Yale had the advantage in shots with 11, while Massachusetts tallied eight, which were all on target. UMass led in corner kicks taking all six on the evening.
Senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza stopped five of the seven shots faced in the full 90 minutes in goal.
The Minutewomen return to Rudd Field, hosting Syracuse for their home opener on Thursday, August 31, at 4 p.m., on ESPN+.
