June 01, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse senior goalkeeper Matt Knote has been named to the All-ECAC Team, the organization announced on Wednesday. The honor is the latest in a long list of 2023 accolades for the Speonk, New York native.

The ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) is an eighty-two-year-old organization with well over 200 member schools across all three NCAA Divisions - I, II and III. The ECAC exists to enhance the experience of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics and provides great value for universities and colleges by sponsoring championships, leagues, bowl games, tournaments and other competitions throughout the Northeast. The ECAC's esports platform is growing and now totals more than sixty colleges and universities and is expanding the geographic footprint for the conference nationally. The ECAC is also sponsoring competitions and leagues involving other varsity and club sports that do not fall under the umbrella of the NCAA.

Knote was previously named a third team All-American by the USILA and USA Lacrosse Magazine and an Honorable Mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse. He was crowned the 2023 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and earned spots on the NEILA All-New England First Team, Atlantic 10 All-Conference First team, the A-10 All-Academic team and the CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team. His A-10 all-conference honor was his third of his career after also being named to the CAA First Team in back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022.

Knote ended the 2023 campaign as the national leader in save percentage (.593) and was tops in the A-10 in goals against average (9.33, fourth nationally) and saves per-game (13.43, 10th nationally). He finished 8-6 on the year after starting all 14 games and has 188 saves to his credit in 829 minutes, 35 seconds between the pipes with 31 ground balls.

Knote was a four-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week this season and was named to the USILA Division I Team of the Week twice. He was also recognized as USA Lacrosse Magazine Division I Player of the Week and to the after UMass' win over Army.
