UMass Athletics Announces Creation Of Greg Cannella Fund For Men’s Lacrosse

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Athletics has announced the creation of the Greg Cannella Fund for Men's Lacrosse, an endowment to support men's lacrosse scholarships and additional benefits in perpetuity.
The intention of the fund is to provide student-athletes with meaningful opportunities for personal and professional growth while advancing the overall excellence, integrity and visibility of the men's lacrosse program.
"Greg Cannella embraced the most meaningful responsibility of coaching: mentorship, personal growth and the development of young men," said Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford. "His legacy is defined not only by sustained competitive excellence, but by the character and achievements of his student-athletes. In honor of that enduring legacy, the Greg Cannella Fund for Men's Lacrosse has been established to provide long-term support for the program as it navigates a new era of college athletics. This fund ensures that the standards Coach Cannella set continue to shape future generations, both on and off the field."
"I am incredibly excited about the creation of the The Greg Cannella Fund for Men's Lacrosse honoring Coach Cannella's extraordinary leadership and lasting impact on our program," said head coach Kyle Smith. "I am honored to carry that legacy forward and help ensure the student-athlete experience continues to be exceptional. Endowing UMass Lacrosse in his name will provide our Minutemen with the resources to reach their full potential and create a strong foundation for sustained success for generations to come."
The initial goal is to raise $3 million dollars for the Greg Cannella Fund, which is projected to generate approximately $120,000 in annual support for the men's lacrosse program in additional to the current investment being made by UMass Athletics.
