Massachusetts Men's Lacrosse Trio Earns NEILA All-New England Recognition

Knote and Cambell named to first team, while Tobin collects second team honors for a second straight year.
AMHERST, Mass. – Three members of the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse program have earned spots on the 2023 Division 1 NEILA All-New England Teams, it was announced on Friday. Senior Goalkeeper Matt Knote and senior defenseman Chris Campbell were named to the first team, while Mike Tobin picked up second team honors for the second straight year.
Knote, a first time All-New England honoree, adds to his growing list of 2023 accolades, recently named an Honorable Mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse and a third team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. He was also crowned the 2023 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and earned spots on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First team and the A-10 All-Academic team and was a four-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week.
The Speonk, New York native ended the 2023 campaign as the national leader in save percentage (.593) and was tops in the A-10 in goals against average (9.33, fourth nationally) and saves per-game (13.43, 10th nationally). He finished 8-6 on the year after starting all 14 games and has 188 saves to his credit in 829 minutes, 35 seconds between the pipes with 31 ground balls.
Campbell helped UMass finish the regular season ranked third in the nation in scoring defense at 9.00 goals per-game and second nationally in man-down defense at .769, first in the A-10 in both categories. He started all 14 games, contributing 25 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Campbell was named to the inaugural Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team and NEILA All-New England Preseason Team this spring. He was an All-NEC first team and NEC All-Tournament Team honoree at LIU in 2022.
Tobin led UMass in scoring with 38 points on 21 goals and 17 assists, all career highs, including 19 points in A-10 action (13g, 6a). He had four man-up tallies on the year, three game winners and 16 ground balls. He had hat tricks in four out of five A-10 contest, scoring in all five, with two five-point games and two four-point games to finish third in A-10 play in points per-game (3.80), first in shots per-game (8.40), fifth in goals per-game (2.60) and eighth in assists per-game (1.20). The Reading, Massachusetts native was held off the scoresheet just once this season and was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week twice.
