#16 UMass Falls To #19 Johns Hopkins In NCAA First Round, 19-8

Charlotte Wilmoth posted a tied for game-high four goals for the Minutewomen.
AMHERST, Mass. – The no. 16 ranked Massachusetts women's lacrosse team fell to no. 19 ranked Johns Hopkins in a NCAA Championship first round matchup on Friday afternoon at the SU Soccer Field, 19-8. The Minutewomen finished the season with a 16-3 record and made their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and second straight by way of an at-large bid.
Charlotte Wilmoth answered a Johns Hopkins (9-8 Overall) goal with her 43rd goal of the season off an Alex Finn assist with 9:49 to go in the first to tie it up at 1-1. The Blue Jays followed by scoring the next six goals of the first quarter to take a 7-1 lead into the second.
Charlotte Clavelli opened the scoring in the second quarter with her 13th goal of the year 25 seconds into play to make it 7-2 in favor of Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays scored two in a row to follow before UMass beat the shot clock to pull back within six. Kassidy Morris fired off a shot with one second remaining on the shot clock off a pass from Alex Finn to make it a 9-3 game with 8:11 left in the half. Kylee Bowen closed out the half with her 33rd goal of the season from Clavelli's assist to make it 10-4 in favor of Johns Hopkins at the break.
The Blue Jays scored five of the game's seven goals in the third quarter, including three straight heading into the fourth with a 15-6 advantage. Wilmoth opened the scoring in the third off a Finn assist before Fiona McGowan netted a goal with 6:46 to play in the third.
Wilmoth added two more to her goal tally in the fourth quarter as she finished tied for the game-high in goals with four. The junior completed her hat trick with 12:38 to go and added her fourth goal with 5:26 remaining off a Morris assist.
Gina Carroll finished with five saves in 30 minutes in goal for the Minutewomen while Catrina Tobin recorded three stops in the second half. Jordan Dean tallied a game-high eight draw controls for a UMass squad that held a 9-7 advantage in the first half before the Blue Jays out-drew the Minutewomen 9-4 in the final 30 minutes.
