Massachusetts Swim And Dive Records Nine Top-Ten Finishes On Day Two Of Atlantic 10 Championships

The Minutemen picked up a gold medal and a school record on the second day of competition.
GENEVA, Ohio - University of Massachusetts swimming and diving competed in day two of the Atlantic 10 Championship on Thursday, recording nine top-ten performances, including a broken school record and a men's 1-meter dive gold medal.
Highlights from Competition

Beatriz Olivieri improved to No. 2 all-time at UMass with her 500-yard freestyle relay time of 4:54.24.

Eric Eastham bettered his No. 10 all-time mark at UMass in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:29.12 and earned 12 points for the Minutemen in the championship final. Wilson Dubois swam a 4:28.38 to win the consolation final and earn nine points. Jake Bailey (4:32.59), Juan Montori (4:37.56), and Emerson Kiefer (4:37.77) earned a combined six points for the Minutemen in the event.

Summer Pierce earned the Minutewomen four points in the 200 IM consolation final in 2:03.73, bettering her to No. 2 all-time at UMass in the event. Megan Mitchell took 21st place in the preliminary round in 2:05.91, bettering her to No. 8 all-time in program history in the event.

Maggie Desmond improved to No. 2 all-time at UMass in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming the event in the preliminary round in 23.04 and claiming fifth place in finals. Caroline Mahoney was in a three-way tie for second place in the consolation round of the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a 23.26 and bettering herself to No. 3 all-time at UMass.

Sammy Quigg set a 50-yard freestyle freshman record, clocking a time of 20.58 seconds in the event.

Sam Haddad set the school record in the 200-yard IM, taking sixth place in 1:48.08. Jack Artis swam a 1:49.46 in the preliminary round to better himself to No. 3 all-time at UMass, while Jamie MacDonald swam a 1:49.63 in the preliminary round to better himself to No. 4 all-time at UMass. Artis and MacDonald took seventh and eighth places, respectively, in finals.

Tommy Cotner won gold in the 1-meter dive, posting a score of 314.60. Andrew Bell captured fifth place with a score of 297.65, while Sean O'Dell took eighth place with a score of 262.30.

The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Desmond, Ashley Calderon, Kirsten Ardis, and Mahoney posted a time of 1:33.04 in finals, good for seventh place.
The Minutewomen remain in seventh place with 108 points, while the Minutemen have improved to second place with 184 points.
Next Up
Massachusetts swim and dive returns to the pool tomorrow morning, Friday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. for day three of the four-day competition. Preliminary races will take place in the morning and finals will begin at 6:30 p.m.
