Massachusetts Swim And Dive Saw Four School Records Fall On Day Three Of Atlantic 10 Championships

The UMass men's and women's teams recorded eleven top-ten all-time program bests on Friday at the SPIRE Institute.
GENEVA, Ohio - The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team continued action in the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday, completing day three of the four-day meet. Eleven top-ten program-best marks, including four school records, were recorded on the day.
Highlights from Competition

Jamie MacDonald set the school record in the 400 IM, racing to fourth place in prelims in 3:53.60, and bettered his school record in finals with a sixth-place finish, swimming a 3:52.82. Sam Haddad swam a 3:53.50 in finals for a seventh-place finish and a No. 2 all-time performance in the event in school history.

Summer Pierce swam the 100-yard butterfly in 54.65 seconds in finals, moving her up to No. 3 all-time at UMass in the event. Ashley Calderon followed with a time of 55.26 seconds, putting her at No. 4 all-time at UMass.

Maggie Desmond took sixth place in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminary round in 1:02.69 to rank No. 3 all-time at UMass in the event and then captured eighth place in finals

Jack Artis was the top finisher for the Minutemen in the 100-yard breaststroke, racing to sixth place in 54.95 seconds and taking seventh in finals.

Megan Mitchell was the lone Minutewoman in the 100-yard backstroke championship finals, swimming the event in 54.64 seconds for seventh place and a bettered school record in the event.

Noah Witt made the consolation final in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing ninth in prelims in 49.22 seconds.

Eric Eastham finished in fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle preliminary round in 1:37.66, making him No. 4 all-time in program history in the event. Emerson Kiefer finished shortly behind him in seventh place, swimming a 1:37.92 to improve himself to No. 5 all-time in the event in program history.

Beatriz Olivieri swam a 1:49.61 in the 200-yard freestyle finals to make herself No. 4 all-time in program history in the event.

The women's 400-yard medley relay team of M. Mitchell, Desmond, Pierce, and Caroline Mahoney swam a school-record breaking 3:42.39 in the event for fifth place.

The men's 400-yard medley relay team of Witt, Artis, Grant Beebe, and Sammy Quigg raced to fourth place in 3:17.88, good for the school record in the event.
Team Results
After day three, the Minutewomen remain in 7th place with 190 points, while the Minutemen have dropped to third place with 301 points.

The Minutemen and Minutewomen return to the pool at the SPIRE Institute for the final time tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 18, as they wrap up action at the Atlantic 10 Championship meet.
