UMass Defeated By Maryland In Final Game Of Cancun Challenge

Freshman Lilly Taulelei scored a career-high 14 points on 6-of-8 from the field for the Minutewomen.
RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico – The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team fell to Maryland in the final game of the Cancun Challenge on Saturday afternoon, 92-63. The Minutewomen are back in action on Friday, Dec. 1 at Yale before wrapping up their road stretch on Dec. 6 at Boston College.
Lilly Taulelei finished with a career-high 14 points on 6-of-8 from the field for the Minutewomen while Kristin Williams added 14 points of her own. Tori Hyduke set a new career-high in assists with seven while recording a season-best four steals on the day. Bre Bellamy hauled in six rebounds to go along with her 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting while and Stefanie Kulesza added six boards of her own.
UMass got off to a quick start in the second quarter after falling behind 23-12 through the first 10 minutes and shot 50-percent from the field in frame. Maryland converted on 55-percent of its field goal attempts in the opening half and finished the game at 51-percent from the field.
In the third quarter, the Minutewomen shot 69-percent from the field, going 9-of-13 overall and 2-of-4 from 3-point range. UMass outscored Maryland 12-11 over the first five minutes and change in the third quarter and posted 27 points in the 10-minute stretch. Taulelei scored six of her 14 points in the third quarter while Kulesza scored all seven of her points in the frame.
UMass returns home to the Mullins Center following the pair of road games on Sunday, Dec. 10 for a noon tip against UMass Lowell.
