Minutewomen Set To Face Oklahoma Sate, Washington In Coconut Hoops Tournament

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's basketball program is set to travel to Fort Meyers, Fla. as one of the seven programs to compete in the 14th-annual Coconut Hoops event Friday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Nov. 29th at FGCU's Alico Arena.
UMass is one of three programs in the Blue Heron Division, along with Oklahoma State and Washington, both of whom made the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Massachusetts faces Oklahoma State on Nov. 28 at 1:30 p.m., then matches up against Washington on Nov. 29 with tipoff slated for 1:30 p.m. This will mark the first matchup in program history against both teams.
Washington finished 22-11 last season, including 10-8 in the Big Ten and advanced to the second round of the Big Ten Tournament and second round of the NCAA Tournament. Oklahoma State is fresh off a 24-10 campaign, where it went 12-6 in the Big 12 and advanced to the NCAA second round.
UMass returns five rotational players from last season, led by returning starters Yahmani McKayle, Ayanna Franks and Chinenye Odenigbo. McKayle averaged 16.2 points, 5.0 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, ranking third in the Mid-American Conference in both points and assists, and earned a spot on the MAC All-Conference First Team. Franks was a force on the defensive end, swiping 2.6 steals per game, good enough for third in the conference and earning a spot on the MAC All-Defensive team. Franks 75 steals on the season currently ranks fourth-most in single-season program history, and her nine-steal performance against Holy Cross tied the second-most in a single game in Minutewomen history. Odenigbo started all 27 games she appeared in for Massachusetts, and ranked third in the conference with 1.5 blocks per game and led the MAC in field goal percentage at a mark of .601.
Those five will team with three transfers (Caroline Dotsey from Butler, Reagan Hurst from Tennessee Tech and Alba Caballero from Ball State) along with four incoming first-years (Tessa Gladieux, Kiki Scott, Imani Shelton and Kylie Sooley) for the 2026-27 season.
