Women's Soccer Set To Host St. Bonaventure On Senior Day

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer returns to Rudd Field for a Sunday afternoon contest with St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. , on ESPN+. Prior to the start of the match, 11 seniors in Sarah Cramer, Ella Curry, Karina Groff, Layal Khartabil, Emily McCormack, Bella Mendoza, Megan Olszewski, Hannah Peric, Grace Pinkus, Lauren Robles and Mia Tarrant will be recognized.
Last Time Out
UMass sits at 7-3-3 overall record, including 4-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, after going 1-0-1 last week, after tying Duquesne, 1-1, on the road, and defeating Loyola Chicago, 4-1, at home.
At Duquesne, junior midfielder Bella Recinos got UMass on the board first, putting home her fourth goal of the season in the 31st minute. The Dukes knotted up the contest in the 43rd minute at 1-1 with a goal of their own.
Against Loyola Chicago, junior forward Ashley Lamond scored her fifth goal of the season to put UMass ahead 1-0 in the 29th minute, after taking a pass across inside the box from Recinos.In the second half, Recinos notched a goal of her own, recording the fifth of the season, in the 47th minute, with an assist from junior midfielder Emma Pedolzky to extend Massachusetts' lead to 2-0. Pedolzky then scored her second goal of the year off a pass from Recinos in the 53rd minute. After the Ramblers scored in the 65th minute, the Minutewomen sealed the deal in the 77th minute with another goal to pull ahead 4-1, as senior forward Lauren Robles booted the ball into the middle of the net off a rebound shot from freshman forward Caroline Dickson.
Defending Fort Rudd
With a 5-0 record at home, it is the first time the program has been undefeated following Rudd Field's opening in the fall of 2002, including ties, since both the 2021 and 2008 seasons, when the team won six straight. The five consecutive home wins for the Minutewomen also ties with the 1984 and 2001 seasons.
Keeping Track
Graduate student defender Fiona Kane placed her name on the program's career games started list, tying for first with 84 games started last Sunday against Loyola Chicago. She will become the all-time program leader on Sunday in career starts with 85 starts.
Kane is also tied for second, alongside Erica Iverson (1994-97) and Heidi Kocher (1991-94) in career games played with 84. The following Thursday, she will tie for first with Amanda Thompson (1995-98) with 85 career games played.
Kane became the all-time minutes leader, currently accumulating 7,598. She surpassed Danielle Dion (1994-97), who tallied 6,913 minutes of playing time and Briana Scurry (1990-93), who totaled 6,073 minutes over her career.
Mendoza etched her name in the record books after tallying 185 career saves to claim ninth place in the program, surpassing Carla DeSantis (1985-88) with 184 saves. With 11 more saves, the senior will tie for eighth with Lauren Luckey (2006-10).
Mendoza also is four shutouts away from tying for 10th in the program alongside Tammie Easton (1982) with 12. The San Ramon, California, native, has recorded eight career shutouts, garnering a career-high in a single season of five this year.
Statistically Speaking
The Minutewomen currently sit second in the A-10 standings, with Saint Louis taking the top spot. UMass is third in points with 66, while also placing third in goals (22) and in assists (22). Massachusetts has also allowed the fewest number of goals this season along with Rhode Island, only letting in nine by its opponents.
Recinos leads the team in points (15), goals (five) and assists (five). She is currently tied for first in points in the Atlantic 10, while tying for second in goals and sitting in second in assists. Lamond follows with the second-most points on the team with 12, while sitting atop the leaderboard with Recinos in goals with five and tying for third in assists with two. In the league, she is tied for fourth with her points total and tied for second with her goals.
Recinos also leads the team in game-winning goals with two and is tied for first in the conference. Five different Minutewomen are tied for second in the A-10 with one game-winning goal.
Mendoza tallied over 1084 minutes in net for the Minutewomen, averaging a .750 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .862 save percentage. She has also accumulated five shutouts, combining for one on the year.
Mendoza has placed herself in the conference rankings, sitting third in goals-against-average with a .750. She also ranks second with a .862 save percentage and is fifth in total saves with 56. She is also tied for second in shutouts per game with a .385 average and with her five total shutouts.
Scouting St. Bonaventure
The Minutewomen hold a 20-4-1 advantage over the Bonnies in the all-time series. The two programs first me on October 17, 1993, when UMass shutout St. Bonaventure, 4-0, on the day. Massachusetts and Duquesne met last season on the road on October 2, with the Minutewomen winning 1-0.
St. Bonaventure sits at 3-4-5 overall and 2-2-1 in league competition, with its two A-10 wins coming at Davidson (1-0) and at Fordham (3-1). The Bonnies ended in a scoreless draw with Dayton.
Olivia Allen and Ami Komori lead St. Bonaventure in points with 12 apiece. Komori has recorded a team-high six goals, while Allen follows with four. Allen also sits atop the leaderboard in assists with four. Allen registered a team-best 27 shots, with 16 on goal, with Komori tallying 23 shots with 10 on target. Chiara Gottinger has tallied the most minutes in net for the Bonnies with 945, holding a 3-4-4 record with two solo shutouts. Gottinger averages a 1.43 GAA and a .805 save percentage, stopping 62 shots.
Weekly Honors
Kane collected the first Atlantic 10 weekly accolade of the year for the Minutewomen on September 5. She earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Week after playing a key role for UMass' defense to post back-to-back 2-0 shutouts over Syracuse (8/31) and Bryant (9/3). Kane combined for 176 total minutes, playing the full 90 minutes against Syracuse and 86 minutes against Bryant.
Mendoza garnered the second A-10 weekly award, earning A-10 Defensive Player of the Week on September 25. She tabbed the accolade after recording two complete shutouts after defeating VCU, 1-0, and Davidson, 5-0. Playing 180 minutes in net, Mendoza allowed no goals and had a perfect save percentage to earn her fourth and fifth shutouts of the season. She turned aside 13 total saves, including a season-best seven against VCU.
Recinos tabbed the third A-10 weekly award for the Minutewomen on October 2 after being named the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week. The accolade marked the first of her career and accumulated 149 minutes of playing time, while registering two goals and two assists for a total of six points. She scored the lone goal at Duquesne (9/28) for two points. Against Loyola Chicago (10/1) she notched the game-winning goal, and added two assists, matching a career-high, on the day for four total points. Recinos also recorded four shots, placing three on goal, on the week.

UMass will head to Saint Louis, Missouri, on Thursday, October 12, to take on No. 24 Saint Louis at 8 p.m. on ESPN+.
