Women’s Soccer Concludes Regular Season With Second Straight Shutout Win

Minutewomen top Rams, 2-0, in regular season finale.
BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team earned its second consecutive shutout on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0-victory over Fordham at Moglia Stadium to close out the 2023 regular season.
UMass finishes the regular season with a 9-4-4 overall record and a 6-2-2 record in league competition, while the Rams complete the season 4-10-4 overall and 2-5-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
The Minutewomen got on the board first, three minutes into the contest thanks to junior midfielder Bella Recinos scoring her seventh goal of the season. A long pass from senior midfielder Ella Curry saw sophomore forward Nia Hislop chase the ball into the 18-yard box. Hislop quickly sent the ball into the middle, just outside the six-yard box, allowing Recinos to run in and one-touch it to the lower right side of the net.
In the 84th minute, junior midfielder Rose Gevanthor recorded the first goal of her career to UMass a 2-0 lead. Junior forward Chandler Pedolzky dribbled the ball into the box, passing it back into the slot to Gevanthor. Gevanthor sailed the ball from 10 yards out towards the bottom left of the net for the goal.
Curry, Pedolzky, Recinos and senior forward Lauren Robles led the Minutewomen with two shots apiece, while Curry, Recinos and Pedolzky had one shot on goal each. Junior midfielder Emma Pedolzky, freshman forward Caroline Dickson and Gevanthor tallied one shot each as both E. Pedolzky and Gevanthor also placed on shot on target.
Senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza played the full 90 minutes in net, stopping five shots on the afternoon. Mendoza recorded her eighth shutout of the season and the 11th of her career with the triumph.
Massachusetts gears up for the Atlantic 10 Championship, with the quarterfinals round beginning on Friday, October 27 or Saturday, October 28 at the on-campus locations of the top four teams in the final standings. The semifinals are set for Wednesday, November 1 with the finals on Sunday, November 5 at a location to be determined.
