Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Saint Joseph’s, 2-0

Minutewomen finish regular season home slate undefeated with 6-0-1 record.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team finished its regular season home slate with an undefeated 6-0-1 record after shutting out Saint Joseph's, 2-0, at Rudd Field on Thursday afternoon. The Minutewomen's undefeated home record marks the first time for the program since the 1993 season, when the team went 8-0-2.
Additionally, it also marks the first time in program history the Minutewomen went undefeated at Rudd Field, with its opening in 2002.
UMass improves to 8-4-4 overall on the year and 5-2-2 in league competition, while the Hawks drop to 4-7-6 overall and 4-2-3 in the A-10.
After a scoreless first half, junior midfielder Bella Recinos corralled a pass from junior midfielder Emma Pedolzky just outside the six-yard box. Recinos dribbled the ball before sending it towards the net in the 49th minute to give the Minutewomen a 1-0 lead.
In the 63rd minute, freshman defender Carolina Benitez tossed the ball into play on a throw-in to senior forward Grace Pinkus. Pinkus turned the ball towards the goal and booted the ball from the line of the 18-yard box, finding the back of the net in the top left corner, to extend UMass' lead, 2-0.
Senior defender Hannah Peric, Pinkus and Recinos led the way with three shots apiece, while Pinkus and Recinos placed two on target. Junior forward Ashley Lamond followed with two shots of her own, including one on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza spent the full 90 minutes in net, turning aside four shots on the day. Mendoza recorded her seventh shutout of the season and the 10th of her career with the win.
Massachusetts concludes the regular season at Fordham on Sunday, October 22, at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
