Bonavita Scores Twice As Minutewomen Draw With River Hawks, 2-2

AMHERST, Mass. – Lauren Bonavita scored twice as the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon at Fort Rudd. The Minutewomen continue home non-conference play on Thursday at 4 p.m. against Boston University.
Bonavita put in the game's first goal 17 minutes in with her third of the season to put UMass up 1-0. The graduate forward sent a left-footed shot towards goal from five yards outside of the 18 and into the left side of goal.
UMass Lowell scored two unanswered goals in the first half to take a 2-1 lead into the halftime break. Calliste Brookshire brought the game level in the 22nd-minute before Chloe Layne scored the River Hawks final goal of the afternoon in the 37th-minute.
Bonavita broke the tie in the 53rd-minute with her second of the game and team-leading fourth of the season. Chandler Pedolzky attempted two shots in the moments prior, with the second forcing a save from UMass Lowell's keeper before bouncing over to Bonavita on the left side for the equalizer.
Both teams put six shots on target in the draw while the Minutewomen finished with a 16 to nine shot advantage. Defensively, the Minutewomen did not surrender a River Hawk corner kick while Megan Olszewski and Bella Mendoza split time in goal with Mendoza coming up with four second half saves.
