Women’s Track & Field Sits Atop Team Standings After Day One At A-10 Championships

The Minutewomen collected four medals on Saturday, including Robinson’s silver in the 10K.

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field collected four medals on Saturday to help the squad sit atop the team standings after day one at the Atlantic 10 Championships. The Minutewomen lead the field through seven scored events with 56.5 points, while Rhode Island follows in second with 38.5 and George Mason third with 38.
 
Lily Robinson earned silver in the 10,000 meter run with a PR of 35 minutes, 58.95 seconds to improve to third all-time in program history. In Hammer, Voski Armenakyan picked up bronze with a toss of 172 feet, 3 inches.
 
Anna Cozzolino led a trio of UMass scorers in javelin, setting a new PR with her throw of 144 feet, 7 inches, bettering her No. 3 all-time mark. Aaliyah Alleyne followed in fourth, also posting a personal best at 138 feet, 6 inches, while Sara Folan was seventh (108'2").
 
The Minutewomen also scored three in two more events, including high jump where Elizabeth Lodge took home bronze after clearing 5 feet, 4.25 inches. Courtney Rowland took fourth, also posting a mark of 5 feet, 4.25 inches and Lea Doerries claimed eighth at 5 feet, 2.25 inches. In long jump, Tiarra Deveaux placed fifth (18'3.25"), Emily McDonald sixth (18'1.5') and Kira Kopec seventh (18'0.5").
 
Sophia Casciano cleared 11 feet, 8.5 inches for fourth in pole vault and Rebekah James ran 11 minutes, 19.81 seconds to fifth in 3,000 meter steeplechase to cap the UMass day one scorers.
 
Five Minutewomen qualified for Sunday's finals on the track. Lillian Kirry was the runner-up in the 400 meter hurdles preliminaries in 1 minute, 0.25 seconds and Alexandra Gonet placed eighth at 1 minute, 4.54 seconds. In 100 meter hurdles preliminaries, Katelyn Gorgenyi ran 14.26 to seventh. Samantha Schwers moved on in 800 meter run and Faith Richardson advanced in 100 meter dash with times of 2:16.82 (seventh) and 12.12 (eighth), respectively.
 
Through four events in heptathlon, Kopec leads the field with 3,132 points, finishing day one strong by winning shot put (42'1.25", 716 points) and taking second in 200 meter dash (25.31, 859 points). Lodge sits third with a score of 3,020 with her Saturday competition highlighted by clearing 5 feet, 6.5 inches to win high jump and pick up 842 points. The mark ranks sixth all-time in program history. Gorgenyi is sixth with 2,857 points with her best performances through four events coming in 100 meter hurdles as she ran 14.42 to second for 920 points.
 
Action will resume on Sunday, May 8, with men's decathlon 110m hurdles at 9:00 a.m.
