Men’s Track & Field Earns Two Medals In Steeplechase On Day One Of A-10 Championships

Norberg collected silver and Conant bronze as the Minutemen had four scorers in the event.

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field opened up the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday by scoring big points in steeplechase, which included a silver medal for Michael Norberg and a bronze for Zach Conant. Through six scored events, the Minutemen sit third out of 12 squads in the team scoring with 29 points, while Rhode Island leads the field with 59.5.
 
UMass scored 22 of its 29 points on the day in the 3,000m steeplechase with Norberg leading the way with a time of 9:17.60 to earn silver. Conant followed in 9 minutes, 25.68 seconds to collect bronze, while Zach Lefever was fourth at 9 minutes, 32.19 seconds and Matthew George took sixth in 9 minutes, 35.61 seconds.
 
The Minutemen secured a pair of sixth-place showings in the field event with Tyler Glendon leaping 22 feet, 7.75 inches in long jump and Coston O'Brien throwing 179 feet, 3 inches in hammer.
 
Joshua Rahn rounded out the day one scorers for UMass, taking eighth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 31 minutes, 10.79 seconds.
 
Lucas Honohan qualified for Sunday's finals in two events, taking fourth in the 400 meter dash preliminaries, clocking in at 49.09 seconds, and running 21.70 seconds to seventh in the 200 meter dash preliminaries. Daniel Dubsky earned a spot in the 400 meter hurdles final after claiming sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 55.02 seconds.
 
Action will resume on Sunday, May 8, with decathlon 110m hurdles at 9:00 a.m.
