Minutemen Claim Two Gold’s During Record-Setting Performance at Day One of A-10 Outdoor Championships

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's track and field team had a solid first day of the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships on Saturday, as the Minutemen took home one medal and four student-athletes scored points in Fairfax, Va.

- Michael Norberg secured gold in the men's 3K steeplechase with a time of 8:39.22, also breaking the program record that had stood for 50 years. Riley Cole also scored for the Minutemen, taking eighth with a time of 9:10.64.
- Robert Carew also took home a gold, running the fastest time in the men's 10K at 30:24.48.
- Aaron Fishler opened the day strong, placing eighth in the men's hammer with a throw of 169'7''.
- Jack Freyler had the seventh-best throw in the men's javelin with a toss of 179'11".
- Will Kenney ran the third-fastest time in the men's 1500m run finishing in 3:51.87, securing a spot in the finals tomorrow.
- Godot Gaskins (1st) and Michael Harden (5th) finished the 400m dash in 46.96 and 47.84, respectively, granting spots in the finals.
- Chris Scalia secured the seventh-fastest time in the men's 400m hurdles at 53.88, earning a spot in the finals.
- Gaskins also took first in the men's 200m dash preliminary with a time of 21.29 for a finals spot.
