Women’s Track & Field Wins New England Title!!

Two school records and three medals helped the Minutewomen take home the team crown.
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field has captured the 2022 Outdoor New England Championship, leading a field of 46 teams with a score of 74.75 points. The Minutewomen collected two golds and a bronze on Saturday and saw two school records set in 400 meter hurdles and 4x400 meter relay.
Lillian Kirry knocked off her own school record in 400 meter hurdles for a second straight day, running 58.67 seconds to the New England title. Kira Kopec provided points as well, taking fourth in 1 minute, 1.81 seconds.
Kirry had a hand in another record going down as she combined with Daniella Pierre, Kopec and Sadai Headley-Mawasi as the anchor of the UMass 4x400 meter relay that won gold in 3 minutes, 43.60 seconds, the fastest time in school history.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Grace Poku, Caroline Schissel, Abby Collins and Kirry took fourth in 47.16 seconds, the new No. 5 all-time mark in the UMass record book.
Danielle Notarfrancesco, the lone Minutewoman to pick up points in the field on Saturday, earned silver in shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 1.25 inches.
Two new top-eight all-timer marks were set in 100 meter hurdles. Sarah Yocum took fourth in the meet in 14.10 seconds, good for fourth in program history, and Katelyn Gorgenyi was fifth in 14.36 seconds, which ranks 6th on the UMass all-time list.
The Minutewomen had five more individuals pick up points on the track. Colette O'Leary claimed fifth in the 800 meter run in 2 minutes, 13.11 seconds and Eugenia Fairhurst ran 4 minutes, 43.11 seconds to seventh in the 1,500m. Schissel and Poku collected eighth in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, with times of 12.13 and 25.40, respectively. Headley-Mawawsi crossed the finish of the 400 meter dash in 56.87 seconds to take sixth.
UMass' 4x800 meter relay team of O'Leary, Elizabeth Hoenes, Samantha Schwers and Fairhurst combined to run 9 minutes, 28.19 seconds, placing fifth.
