Women's Lacrosse Falls in A-10 Title Game

May 01, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse

AMHERST, MA. – The Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse team concluded the Atlantic 10 tournament with a loss Sunday, as the Minutewomen fell to the Hawks of St. Joseph's 15-11. UMass had a +3 as the turnover margin, which helped keep the game close in the key moments.

A hat-trick from redshirt senior Julia Smith powered the Minutewomen's offense. Lauren Figura the conference's offensive player of the year,  potted five goals on seven shots to put St. Joseph's in a position to take the title.

Senior Gina Carroll allowed 11 goals with one save, as the Hawks were able to find the seams in the UMass defense. Jorden Concordia was brilliant between the pipes for the Hawks, as she held the potent UMass offense to only 11 goals, making 9 huge saves along the way.

Massachusetts was a solid 14-15 on clears today, which is on par with the UMass play this season.

The Minutewomen carried another lead into halftime Sunday, but a St. Joseph shutdown 4-0 third period proved to be the difference in the game.

Massachusetts outshot the Hawks 29-23, but the shots on goal were a tighter 20-19. Massachusetts couldn't rally late, giving the Hawk's the A-10 title by a 15-11 final score.

UMass will await the NCAA selection show, with the anticipation of and at-large bid for the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse tournament.
