To the Ship! UMass Back in Atlantic 10 Title Game to Face Hawks

AMHERST, MA. – The Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse team began the Atlantic 10 tournament with a victory Friday, as the Minutewomen took down the Wildcats of Davidson 11-8, sending them to Sunday's finals. The Minutewomen will take on the Hawks of Saint Joseph's, who pulled the upset over No. 18 Richmond in the second semifinal.
Kendra Harbinger stole the show Friday, as the graduate student midfielder sniped four goals and logged an assist as well. Kelly Marra and Maddy Moloney kept the Wildcat defense under pressure all day, contributing 13 shots of their own. The 11 goals were a lower tally for the Minutewomen, but their defense held firm.
Senior Gina Carroll was a force on Friday afternoon, keeping the Wildcats under 10 goals, and adding another win to her expert record in 2022.
Massachusetts was right on par with clears in the contest, going a brilliant 18-19.
The Minutewomen were off and running again at the end of period 1. The story of success for UMass all season has been similar. They will carry a lead into the second quarter and hold it until the final whistle blows. Friday was more of the same for the team as they raced out 3-1 at the end of 1.
Massachusetts brought a shots barrage today, outshooting Davidson 30-13, for an overwhelming margin of 17.
UMass fended off a late rally of 3 straight 4th period goals and came out on top 11-8.
Massachusetts will stay home on Sunday, May 1 to face the winner of the other semi-final between Richmond and St. Joseph's with a 12:00 p.m. first draw.
