The Minutewomen had three new top-five all-time marks set on the day.
WORCESTER, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's track & field posted wins in eight events on Saturday, helping the Minutewomen finish atop the team standings at the Holy Cross Invitational with a score of 188.5. In addition to leading the six-team field, UMass also had three top-five all-time marks set on the day.
Lillian Kirry ran 54.91 seconds to a victory in 400 meter dash, setting the new No. 3 all-time mark in the program's record book. Sarah Witt took sixth in the event, clocking in at 59.48 seconds.
The Minutewomen claimed six of the top-eight spots in 200 meter dash, led by Sarah Yocum's winning time of 25.18 seconds. Following Yocum, Grace Poku was second (25.37), Kira Kopec third (25.43), Caroline Schissel fifth (25.78), Abby Collins seventh (25.87) and Sadai Headley-Mawasi eighth (25.89).
Massachusetts scored four in 100 meter dash with Collins first to cross the line in 12.25 seconds. Schissel and Poku followed on her heels in second and third, both at 12.40 seconds and Jordan LaFave placed fifth (12.56).
Rebekah James won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11 minutes, 18.97 seconds and UMass swept the relays to round out the Minutewomen winners on the track. Poku, Schissel, Colins and Faith Richardson teamed up to run 47.63 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay. In the 4x400, Yocum, Kopec, Headley-Mawasi and Kirry combined for a time of 3 minutes, 48.78 seconds.
Danielle Notarfrancesco was victorious in shot put with a toss of 47 feet, 5.25 inches and Gabriella Pagnini took home sixth (39'11.25").
Emily McDonald led the field in long jump with a winning leap of 18 feet, 9.25 inches, while Tiarra Deveaux was second (18'7") and Jordan Lafave sixth (17'6.25"). McDonald also scored in triple jump (third, 38'8.75") as did Tyler Berry (sixth, 36'0.75").
Anna Cozzolino was the runner-up in javelin, improving her No. 3 all-time mark in the UMass record book with a 144-foot, 1 inch throw. Aaliyah Alleyne finished in the top-eight as well, taking eighth with a mark of 110 feet, nine inches.
For a second straight week, Voski Armenakyan set a personal best in hammer throw as her toss of 174 feet, 5 inches stands third in program history and was good for sixth at the meet. Cheyenne Figueroa placed seventh (174'0") and Notarfrancesco eighth (165'1").
In discus, Pagnini captured second at 136 feet, 3 inches and Figueroa was fourth (132'6").
Three Minutewomen scored in high jump, led by Elizabeth Lodge who cleared 5 feet, 5 inches for second. Courtney Rowland and Lea Doerries tied for fifth, both posting a height of 5 feet, 3 inches. Sophia Casciano took second in pole vault at 11 feet, 11.75 inches.
Also picking up points for UMass on the track, Yocum (14.20), Katelyn Gorgenyi (14.79) and Elizabeth Lee (15.06) placed second, fourth and sixth, respectively, in 100 meter hurdles. In 400 meter hurdles, Ecaterina Rojco came in third (1:05.50) and Jaden Young collected sixth in 1,500 meter run (4:47.83).
The Minutewomen will be back in action next Saturday, April 30, when the squad will host New Hampshire, Vermont, UMass Lowell and Dartmouth for its final home meet of the season.
