UMass Men's Track & Field Takes Second At Holy Cross Invitational

Dion sets a new top-eight all-time mark in hammer for the Minutemen.
WORCESTER, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's track & field took second at the Holy Cross Invitational on Saturday, posting a team score of 133. The Minutemen won five events and saw a top-eight all-time mark set in hammer and trailed only Maine (193) in the six-team field.
William Dion threw 171 feet, eight inches to place second in hammer throw, good for sixth all-time in program history. Coston O'Brien followed in third with a mark of 153 feet.
Lucas Honohan won the 200 meter dash in 21.86 seconds with Michael Rodia (sixth, 22.75) and Christopher Matthews (seventh, 22.83) finishing in the scoring, as well. Colin Stoddard took the top spot in 400 meter dash, clocking in at 48.85 seconds, while Bernd Martens was seventh (51.96).
Zachary Conant was victorious in steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 25.48 seconds, and the Minutemen swept both relays. The team of Rodia, Ethan Clark, Felipe Gonzalez and Honohan combined to run 41.71 seconds in the 4x100 and Stoddard, Mattews, Martens and Honohan posted a time of 3 minutes, 19.01 seconds in the 4x400.
UMass scored four in 100 meter dash, led by Gonalez in second, crossing the finish at 11.06. Rodia placed fourth (11.13), Honohan sixth (11.17) and Andrew Chabon eighth (11.39).
Alexander Laurent claimed fifth in 800 meter run, registering a time of 1 minute, 55.52 seconds. Will Kenney (1:56.93) and Mojuba Shonekan (1:57.31) followed in seventh and eighth, respectively.
Rounding out the Minutemen scorers on the track, Nicholas Calitri took sixth (4:05.39) in 1,500 meter run and Xavier Metivier was eighth (4:08.62).
In shot put, Joseph Duggan and O'Brien were second and third, both throwing 49 feet, 9 inches. UMass landed three in the top-eighth in discus with Tevin Early claiming second (155'5"), Duggan fourth (151'11") and O'Brien sixth (143'9").
Flynn Mitchell registered a third-place finish in javelin with a mark of 175 feet, 1 inch. Joseph Manchester earned fifth (175'0") and Peter Kitsakos took sixth (170'4").
The Minutemen had three individuals score in jumps. Allan Bellevue in triple jump (third, 38'7.75"), Ethan Champlin in high jump (fourth, 6'0.75") and Tyler Glendon in long jump (fourth, 22'6.5").
UMass will return to action next Saturday, April 30, when the squad will host New Hampshire, Vermont, UMass Lowell and Dartmouth for its final home meet of the season.
