Let’s Go Dancing: No. 12 Women’s Basketball Battles No. 5 Notre Dame In The First Round Of the 2022 NCAA Tournament

The Minutewomen take on the Fighting Irish on Saturday, March 19, in Norman, Oklahoma.
AMHERST, Mass. – For the first time in 24 years, the No. 12-seeded University of Massachusetts women's basketball team is heading back to the NCAA Tournament. UMass will take on the No. 5-seeded University of Notre Dame on Saturday, March 19, in Norman, Oklahoma, on the big stage in the Bridgeport Region.
The 2022 NCAA Tournament appearance marks the third time for the program, as UMass earned the automatic bid after defeating Dayton in the Atlantic 10 Championship, winning its first A-10 Title ever in program history. The Minutewomen are 26-6 on the season, breaking a program record of the most wins in history.
The A-10 Player of the Year, A-10 Tournament MVP and co-captain, Sam Breen, leads the team in points, averaging 16.9 per game (540 total), and in rebounds with 10.3 per game (328 total). Co-captain Destiney Philoxy sits atop the leaderboard in assists on the year with 181, while Ber'Nyah Mayo ranks first in steals with 74.
Slated at the top of the region was NC State, who will take on the winner of the play-in game between Longwood and Mt. St. Mary's. No. 2 UConn will match up against No. 15 Mercer, while No. 3 Indiana faces No. 14-seeded Charlotte. The No. 4-seed Oklahoma matches up against No. 13 IUPUI, and No. 6-seed Kentucky will play No. 11 Princeton. No. 7 UCF will take on No. 10 Florida, as No. 8-seed Washington State and No. 9-seed Kansas State go head-to-head to round out the regional bracket.
