AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team hosts Fordham tomorrow at 7 p.m. for Senior Night in the final game in the Mullins Center this season. The Minutemen will honor their four seniors prior to tip-off against the Rams.
Senior Night
The Minutemen will honor their four seniors prior to Wednesday's game against the Rams. Trent Buttrick, Greg Jones, Rich Kelly and Michael Steadman will participate in the Senior Night ceremony approximately 30 minutes before tip-off against Fordham.
On The Glass
The Minutemen outrebounded VCU 36-27 on Saturday in the Mullins Center as three different players finished with seven or more rebounds. Trent Buttrick and Michael Steadman each hauled in eight boards while Greg Jones chipped in seven off the bench. UMass recorded a 37-36 rebound advantage at Fordham on Monday, led by Buttrick's seven boards, while hauling in 15 offensive rebounds as a team.
Against The Rams
UMass won three straight over Fordham prior to Monday's loss on the road in Rose Hill Gym. The Minutemen were led offensively with 13 points each from Michael Steadman and Noah Fernandes. Fernandes scored all 13 of his points in the final 20:04 after foul trouble early in the first half.
The Road Ahead
The Minutemen continue their stretch of three games in six days with Wednesday's rematch against the Rams. UMass heads to George Mason on Saturday for the regular season finale before beginning the Atlantic 10 Championships in Washington, D.C. the following week.
Helping Hand
Fernandes ranks 23rd in the nation in assists per game with 5.3 and ranks 62nd in assist to turnover ratio at 2.2. The junior also leads the Minutemen in scoring has posted scoring outputs of 18 or more in seven games and finished in double figures in 19-of-24 contests. Fernandes set a new career-high in assists with 12 at St. Bonaventure (2/16) and added 14 points to post his second career double-double.
Steady Groovin'
Michael Steadman has been finding his groove offensively for the Minutemen and is averaging 12.3 points per game over his last six. Steadman has reached double figures in five of the last six contests, including four consecutive games with 10 or more. The senior opened the stretch with a 19-point performance against Saint Joseph's on Feb. 12 in which he scored 11 of the first 13 UMass points and started 5-of-5 from the field.
Minutemen From Range
UMass ranks 14th in the nation in made 3-point field goals per game at 9.8 and ranks inside the top-30 nationally in both 3-point percentage and 3-pointers made. The Minutemen lead the Atlantic 10 in 3-pointers per game and total 3-pointers and are second in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.375). Rich Kelly leads the A-10 in accuracy from range with a .476 shooting clip while Greg Jones ranks second on the team in 3-point percentage at .450.
