UMass Bounces Back With 81-73 Win Over Fordham On Senior Night

T.J. Weeks finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
AMHERST, Mass. – T.J. Weeks posted his second double-double of the season as the UMass men's basketball team picked up an 81-73 win over Fordham on Senior Night in the Mullins Center. Weeks led the Minutemen (13-16 Overall, 6-11 Atlantic 10) with a game-high 17 points to go along with a team-leading 10 rebounds.

UMass trailed Fordham (14-15 Overall, 7-10 A-10) by as many as six points early before a 9-0 Minuteman run gave them their first lead of the night. Dyondre Dominguez helped spark the UMass run with a stretch where he scored seven of the last nine points to put the Minutemen ahead 12-11 just under seven minutes in. Dominguez finished with nine points in nine minutes off the bench.

The Minutemen shot 15-of-31 in the first half to gradually build a lead of 13 at the break with the score at 44-31 after 20 minutes of play. UMass used a 9-0 run to take a 28-21 lead that was capped off with two of Weeks' eight first half points and built a double-digit lead on a Noah Fernandes jumper with just under two minutes left in the half. Fernandes pitched in eight points and dished out a game-high six assists.

Rich Kelly scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half and went 2-of-3 from range in the opening 20 minutes.

Fordham chipped away at the UMass advantage as the Rams started the half 12-of-20 from the field to make it a one-point game with 7:03 left. The Minutemen responded by holding the Rams without a point for the next 4:55 and held Fordham to 1-of-11 from the field to close out the night as they finished the game just over 36-percent from the field.

UMass shot 7-for-8 from the free throw line down the stretch and outscored the Rams by eight over the final nine-plus minutes following a Trent Buttrick triple after Fordham tied it at 62-62 with 9:33 left. Buttrick added 11 points and hauled in eight boards for the Minutemen.

The Minutemen wrap up the regular season on the road Saturday with a matchup at George Mason set for 4 p.m.
