Honohan And Lefever Win Individual Titles For UMass Men's Track & Field On Day Two Of New England Championships

The Minutemen finished third out of 22 schools at the two-day meet.

BOSTON – University of Massachusetts picked up two more individual titles on day two of the New England Championships as Lucas Honohan took gold in the 400 meter dash and Zach Lefever won the mile run on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center. The Minutemen finished third in the team scoring out of 22 schools with 89 points, while Rhode Island took home the team title with a score of 231.5.
 
Honohan ran 48.85 to first in the 400, while Colin Stoddard also provided points for UMass in the event, taking fifth in 50.59 seconds. Lefever posted a winning time of 4 minutes, 9.30 seconds in the mile.
 
Coston O'Brien threw 50 feet, 11 inches in shot put to earn silver for the Minutemen's third medal of the day.
 
In 60 meter hurdles, Denzel Agyeman was fourth with a time of 8.42 seconds and Nasir Perry claimed eighth in 8.74 seconds. UMass also scored two in the 500m with Alexander Laurent placing fourth in 1 minute, 5.66 second and Daniel Dubsky was eighth, clocking in at 1 minute, 8.74 seconds.
 
The Minutemen had two top-eight finishers in the 800 meter run as well. Nicholas Calitri placed fifth with a time of 1 minute, 57.26 seconds and Mojuba Shonekan landed eighth in 1 minute 58.47 seconds.
 
UMass' 4x400 relay team of Sean McKay, Laurent, Riley Drew and Honohan combined for a fourth-place time of 3 minutes, 19.75 seconds. In the 4x800, Shane Grant, Gabriel Kwarteng, Mojuba Shonekan and Calitri posted a time of 8 minutes, 4.34 seconds, good for sixth.
 
In heptathlon, Matthew Tarantino placed sixth with 4,272 points and Mason Miller was eighth with a score of 4,023.
 
UMass will return to action on Saturday, February 12, when the squad will split between the Giegengack Invitational at Yale and Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
