DMR Wins Gold To Kick Off New England Championships For Men's Track & Field

The Minutemen took home medals in DMR, shot put and long jump on Friday.
BOSTON – University of Massachusetts men's track and field opened up the New England Championships by capturing gold in the distance medley relay on Friday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center. Through seven scored events, the Minutemen sit second in the field of 11 teams with 28 points.
The team of Shane Grant, Alexander Laurent, Gabriel Kwarteng and Zach Lefever combined for the winning DMR time of 9 minutes 58.05 seconds.
Coston O'Brien threw 60 feet, 4.00 inches to capture silver in weight throw. Andrew Chabon took home bronze in long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 3.50 inches.
Joshua Rahn rounded out Friday's scorers for UMass as he placed fifth in 5,000 meter run in 15 minutes, 25.69 seconds.
The Minutemen sent six on to Saturday's finals on the track. Laurent and Daniel Dubsky ran 1:04.98 and 1:07.14 to second and seventh, respectively in prelims.
In 400 meter dash Colin Stoddard and Lucas Honohan posted qualifying times of 50.11 and 50.17 seconds for fifth and sixth in the 400 meter dash preliminaries.
Mojuba Shonekan advanced to the 800 meter run final, running 1:57.59.
Action at the meet will resume on Saturday, February 5, at 10 a.m.
