FAIRFAX, VA. – University of Massachusetts women's track & field graduate student Kira Kopec smashed the Atlantic 10 and UMass records en route to her second straight goal in pentathlon at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday. Following day one's action, the Minutewomen sit third in the team standings with 31 points, trailing Dayton (33.5 points) and George Mason (32 points).

Kopec bested the previous A-10 pentathlon record by almost 100 points, posting a score of 3,962 to also break the UMass record in the event. She finished in the top-three in four of the five events, winning shot put (716 points), long jump (19'1 1/2", 798 points) and the 800 meter run (2:18.72, 841 points).  Her long jump mark also tied her for fourth in program history on that list.

UMass' distance medley relay team of Eugenia Fairhurst, Daniella Pierre, Samantha Schwers and Colette O'Leary combined to post a fifth-place time of 12 minutes, 6.51 seconds.
