Andrew Chabon led the Minutemen on Saturday with a fourth-place finish in long jump.
FAIRFAX, Va. โ University of Massachusetts men's track and field opened the Atlantic 10 Championships at George Mason University Field House by scoring points in four events on day one of the two-day meet. The Minutemen currently sit fifth in the team standings with 15 points, while the host Patriots lead the field with a score of 51.

Andrew Chabon was the top finisher for UMass on Saturday, taking fourth in long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 4.75 inches. Coston O'Brien provided points in weight throw with his toss of 58 feet, 1 inch, which landed him sixth.

On the track, Zach Lefever ran 14 minutes, 34.57 seconds to fifth in the 5,000 meter race.

UMass distance medley relay of Shane Grant, Mason Benton, Nicholas Calitri and Will Kenney combined for a sixth-place time of 10 minutes, 7.69 seconds.

Three more Minutemen qualified for Sunday's finals out of Saturday's preliminary competition. Lucas Honohan posted a time of 49.32 to advance out of the 400 meter prelim, taking fourth in the field.

Alexander Laurent was the runner-up in the 500 meter prelim to move on to the final with a time of 1 minute, 5.58 seconds and Grant qualified for the 1,000 meter final with a sixth-place time of 2 minutes, 30.88 seconds.
