OโBrien and Honohan break previous UMass records in weight throw and 400 meter dash.
BOSTON โ University of Massachusetts men's track and field had a record-setting day on Saturday as the squad split between a pair of unscored meets, the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University and the Giegengack Invitational at Yale.

Coston O'Brien broke UMass' longest standing record, surpassing Dick Ward's mark of 61 feet, 9.5 inches in 1963 with the winning toss of 62 feet, 7.25 inches at the Giegengack Invitational.

Lucas Honohan took down Tom Toye's 400 meter dash record of 48.27, set in 1996, running 48.03 seconds to eighth at the Valentine Invitational.

UMass set two more top-five all-time marks at BU. Shane Grant was eighth in the 1,000 meter clocking in at 2 minutes, 25.98 seconds, good for third all-time in program history.ย Zach Lefever posted the second-fastest time in program history in 3,000 meter run, clocking in at 8 minutes, 10.20 seconds to place 50th at the meet.

At Yale, Nasir Perry was victorious in 60 meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.25 seconds, while Denzel Agyeman followed in second (8.50) and Mason Miller was fourth (8.93).

Minutemen went 1-though-5 in 200 meter dash, led by event winner Felipe Gonzalez's time of 23.01 seconds. Agyeman (23.30), Mason Benton (23.34), Perry (23.44) and Ricky Arias (23.61) finished second-though-fifth.

Nicholas Calitri and Jackson Grady claimed first and second in 800 meter run with times of 1 minute 58.65 seconds and 2 minutes, 4.31 seconds, respectively.

In addition to his win in weight throw, O'Brien took fourth in shot put with a mark of 49 feet, 3.75 inches, and Joseph Duggan placed fifth (49'3.75").
