UMass’ Kopec Wins Pentathlon At Harvard Multi Meet

The graduate student led the field of seven competitors on Friday in Cambridge.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field graduate student Kira Kopec paced a field of seven competitors with a score of 3,641 points to win the pentathlon at the Harvard Multi Meet on Friday.
Kopec began the day's action by running 9.10 seconds to first in 60 meter hurdles for 889 points, followed closely by freshman Katelyn Gorgeny in second at 9.11 seconds (887 points).
The third Minutewoman in action, Madelyn Krohto, took the top spot in high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4.25 inches for 771 points, while Kopec was sixth (4'11.5", 623 points) and Gorgenyi was seventh (4'9").
Kopec was on top once again in shot put, throwing 41 feet, 1.75 inches for 697 points. Gorgenyi was third (29'9.25", 469 points) and Krohto captured fifth (27'5.50", 423 points).
Long jump saw Kopec place third with a leap of 17 feet, 8.25 inches for 668 points with Gorgenyi following in fourth at 17 feet, 5.25 inches for 645 points and Krohto was seventh (14'9.25", 428 points).
In the final event of the competition, Kopec captured the runner-up spot in 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 25:13 seconds for 755 points. Krohto and Gorgenyi placed sixth (2:55.54, 408 points) and seventh (2:56.96, 394 points), respectively.
Gorgenyi finished fifth in the scoring with 2,961 points and Krohto was sixth with 2,815 points.
