Women’s Track & Field Claims First At Blue & Orange Invitational

The Minutewomen posted a score of 167 to lead the field.
UTICA, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field was victorious in eight events to claim first at the Blue & Orange Invitational on Saturday at the Todd and Jennifer Hutton Sports and Recreation Dome on Saturday. The Minutewomen paced the field of 14 teams with a score of 167.
Grace Poku led UMass on the track, winning two events, while improving her No. 5 all-time program mark in the 60 meter dash. She ran 7.75 in the 60m, followed by Abby Collins in second (7.91) and Adriana Phan in third (7.99).
Poku and Collins also went 1-2 in the 200m, clocking in at 26.03 and 26.22 seconds, respectively. Two more Minutewomen finished in the top-eight as well. Daniella Pierre was fourth (26.57) and Jordan Lafave placed seventh (27.05).
Sadai Headley-Mawasi won the 400 meter dash in 59.09 seconds. Joining her in the top eight from UMass were Jennifer Nadig (fourth, 1:01.39), Ecaterina Rojco (fifth, 1:01.59) and Sarah Witt (sixth, 1:01.71).
Phan was victorious in 60 meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.09 seconds. Jessica Green (third, 9.43), Elizabeth Lee (fourth, 9.45) and Tyler Berry (fifth, 9.62) all finished in the scoring for the Minutewomen as well.
Courtney Rowland earned the top spot in high jump clearing 5 feet, 3 inches, followed by Madelyn Krohto and Tessa Bostwick who both took third with a height of 5 feet, 1.25 inches.
Lafave placed first in long jump at 17 feet, 10.25 inches and Krohto was second with a mark of 17 feet, 4 inches.
Berry posted the top performance in triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 3 inches. Deveaux was second (35'0.25") and Jessica Dronzek claimed sixth (34'6.25").
UMass' "A" squad of Pierre, Headley-Mawasi, Rojco and Nadig won the 4x400 meter relay in 4 minutes, 4.90 seconds and the "B" squad of Rachel LaBonte, Bostwick, Witt and Julia Keefe ran 4 minutes, 13.19 seconds to third.
The Minutewomen will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, February 4-5 at the New England Championships in Boston at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.
