Men's Track & Field Takes Third at Blue & Orange Invitational

Minutemen won the 4x400 meter relay and the 60 meter hurdles.
UTICA, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field won two events en route to a third-place team finish at the Blue & Orange Invitational at the Todd and Jennifer Hutton Sports and Recreation Dome on Saturday. The Minutemen posted a score of 84.5 to take third in a field of 14 teams.
Nasir Perry won 60 meter hurdles, running 8.38 seconds to the top spot. Denzel Agyeman took the runner-up spot in 8.40 seconds, while Mason Miller was fifth (9.01) and Matthew Tarantino placed eighth (9.25).
The 4x400 meter relay squad of Mason Benton, Riley Drew, Bernd Martens and Sean McKay combined for a winning time of 3 minutes, 28.97 seconds.
Michael Rodia placed second in the 60 meter dash, crossing the finish in 7.06 seconds. Patrick Walsh followed in fifth (7.21) and Tyler Glendon landed eighth (7.26).
In the 400 meter dash, McKay placed fourth in 52.54 seconds, Martens captured fifth in 52.84 seconds and Benton claimed seventh in 52.86 seconds.
Rounding out the UMass scorers on the track, Felipe Gonzalez was fifth in the 200m, posting a time of 23.31 seconds, followed by Drew and Rodia in sixth and seventh with times of 23.34 and 23.37, respectively.
Andrew Chabon took second in long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 7.25 inches and Glendon was fifth (21'2"). Tarantino placed fourth in pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 5.5 inches, and Allan Bellevue was seventh in high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches.
The Minutemen will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, February 4-5 at the New England Championships in Boston at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.
